FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE: Let’s work

A SIMULATION FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A FOLTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM

NEED:

  • Photovoltaic panels
  • Electric cables
  • Inverter

 

Our class, with a Girasole company technician Mr. PIETRAGALLA Michele, experimented the method the photovoltaic panels are mounted by.

Initially, after having unloaded the material from the van, we placed the panels near each other and oriented towards the sun at the same angle, so that no shadows were created between them. Then we put the panels in communication with each other by connecting the positive pole of each of them to the negative pole of the next one, thus obtaining a block which in turn was connected to an inverter: an electronic device able to convert the continuous current input into alternating current output and to change the amplitude and frequency parameters.

And wonder of wonders, we understood how a photovoltaic panel can be really installed, and light was!!!

“Come on, Marco make a goal there”, an experience of friendship and integration

Last November we shared a part of our path of alternation with the boys of the 5A of Laurenzana tightening a strong friendship with the latter, especially with Marco, a boy who has conquered all with his sympathy and desire to learn. Marco has integrated well into this new group, thanks to his desire to be together and have fun, sharing with us jokes and laughter. The title of this article comes from the fact that the boys have created a choir for Marco as a sign of this beautiful friendship born by chance. This experience was constructive because it taught us that in the workplace or in any other place there are wonderful friendships. Therefore, alternation is not only a formative experience but also of friendship and integration.

Let’s know something about our school-work experience and the blog “Costrueco”

The blog “Costrueco” originates as a diary about the School-Work experience carried out by 27 students of the class 3rd E of the Liceo Scientifico “P.P. Pasolini” in Potenza, the chief-town of Basilicata, a region south of Italy.

Starting from the collaboration with property company  “Astor” and the “Unibas” of Potenza, we students had a complete vision of the Sciences which are applied to the systems of energy saving and of Sofety in the building sector, thus understanding that the hard  and a bit boring theoritical studies (Carnot’s Cycle, the study of waves, of inorganic chemistry), that we are dealing with, find a practical use in everyday life.

Sensitizing to Sustainable Development concerned  then many other aspects such as: recycling, fair trade, sustainable agricolture, the preference for product’s at zero kilometre.

In fact, we started a project concerning recycling.,so giving, new life to some objects  saved  from the dump. In this way we realized some flower boxes with tyres, some lamps with the caps of water bottles, some clocks with old frying pans, a vertical garden with exhaust water pipes and a small lamp-table with a drum. As pupils we enjoyed ourselves a lot in testing our technical abilities at using new tools as a drill, a saw and hot glue, at cooperating with our mates, at planning objects and at facing the unexpected events for making them.

 

 

A sheer multilinguistic editorial staff originated in this way, which, enjoying itself, learnt to choose information, to create and to plan, to work in team, and to publish in a simple, prompt and straight way, with using the web and the most advanced digital technologies.

Our motto was: “A real discovery trip is not searching for new lands, but having new eyes”.

Photovoltaic installation

In our path of work-school alternation we have collaborated with the “Girasole” green economy company and with Ing. Giambattista scocuzzo who taught us from the basics, how to install a photovoltaic system giving us all the necessary instructions, following us step by step.

To do all this, you must first complete a form with a whole series of data.

To start, you have to take all the data of the customer to mount the system, then personal data and customer type, or if the customer is a private individual, public body or for a company.

Then we move on to the type of installation, whether it is a building or a piece of land.

In the case of the building, it is necessary to indicate whether it is a flat roof or a pitched roof and specify the presence of a balustrade. If instead it is a land, you must indicate whether it is flat, sloping or terrace. Obviously we must refer to the type of roof that the building has, so if the roof is 1 or more pitches or if it is flat and specify the shape and type of tiles

Logistic information is very important. It is necessary to know if the installation site is in a limited traffic area and if the area has the road of sufficient size for access and for maneuvers and possibly list possible problems for unloading. You also need to know the installation area: whether it is in an urban area, on the outskirts, in an agricultural area or in an area free of obstacles and of course the region.

The most important part is to indicate the electrical characteristics of the system to be installed.

It is necessary to specify: Supply, position, inverter space contactor, technical compartment position, distances between inverter, generator and general panel and make sure that everything is in accordance with the law.

Finally, a map is drawn where there must be all the useful information for the engineer.

We class 4E have simulated the installation of the system on our school and each of us has compiled their own card with all the information useful to our school with the help and directions of the engineer. Giambattista Scocuzzo and Raffaele Cambriglia company manager.

It was a really useful and interesting experience.

Let’s work A.S. 2017/2018

This year we continued our journey in the world of the green economy in partnership with the company Girasole srl. It has been engaged for years in the field of training through customized didactic paths in the fields of energy, environment and sustainability, new technologies and nutrition. Thanks to this collaboration we have designed a photovoltaic system for our school, we installed it and made it work. In addition, the company hosted us in its structure in Calvello and we could observe so many examples of sustainable development such as biomass plants, ecological shelters self-powered through photovoltaic systems and wind energy production.

 

We then touched cultures of bacteria and observed molds, analyzed polluted waters, classified by analyzing various types of olive oil and divided according to the pH and the organoleptic properties of them at IRSAQ, a chemical physical laboratory situated in Tito, which performs quality certifications.

 

Thanks to these experiences we put ourselves to the test, we tested our skills and we had fun working all together.
